Body Scan Composition

Dual Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry (DEXA) is the gold standard in clinical body composition analysis. Taking into account age, race, and gender this technology uses two x-ray energies to measure body fat, muscle, and bone density as a whole body or in regional body estimates (arms, legs, and trunk).

The results can be used for overall health and evaluating for osteoporosis or optimizing athletic performance and can be compared to an individual’s previous scans to monitor progression. Results will be thoroughly explained by the physician assistant. The scan takes approximately 5 minutes to complete with instant results. No special preparation is required and street clothes can be worn. There is some exposure to low-dose radiation, about 1/30th of that used in a standard chest x-ray.

If you are pregnant or have had x-ray contrast, barium study, or nuclear medicine scan within the last 30 days this test is not advisable.

Initial consultation fee starts at $25. Call us at (630) 355-1533 or click here to get in touch with the NWLC staff for more information.
